Compare Nigerian footballers across roles and eras
All-time influence and current form are different
A memorable international tournament, a long club career and a strong recent season answer different questions. Decide what you value before voting. This cross-generation list is not a statement that every player is active or available for national-team selection.
Compare roles fairly
Goals alone cannot assess a goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and forward on the same basis. Consider the responsibilities of each role and the context of the team. Enyeama’s goalkeeping and the attacking contributions of the forwards should not be reduced to a single scoring statistic.
Club achievements and Nigeria performances
Consider club and national-team contributions separately before forming an overall view. Use competition organisers’ records for specific honours. Team success, individual awards and personal preference are related discussion points but are not interchangeable measures.
Use dated records for awards and statistics
CAF records Victor Osimhen as the 2023 men’s Player of the Year and Ademola Lookman as the 2024 winner. These are dated honours, not claims about the latest winner. For caps, goals or current clubs, check a current official record rather than assuming an older profile remains accurate.
What the poll position means
The order follows publisher-supplied historical votes and accepted website votes. It is not a scouting grade, professional valuation, current-season performance table or official Nigeria football ranking. Equal totals share a position and every nominated player remains discoverable.
Frequently asked questions
Who is the best Nigerian footballer of all time?
Fans weigh skill, achievements, longevity and national-team impact differently. This page records preferences among ten nominated players rather than declaring an objective all-time winner.
Does this list contain only active players?
No. It deliberately spans contemporary players, retired players and the late Rashidi Yekini. It is not a current Super Eagles squad list.
Is the leading player the current African Player of the Year?
Not necessarily. CAF awards are separate, dated honours. Our vote leader is determined only by this poll’s counts.
Are the vote totals goals, caps or professional ratings?
No. They are reader-preference totals; sporting records must be checked separately against the relevant competition and date.
